TOKYO-Toshiba Corp., Taiyo Yuden Co. Ltd., and IBM Japan Ltd. said they will establish a joint-venture company to authorize the use of the Bluetooth logo in Japan, which is mandatory for all products that claim to meet the Bluetooth standard.
The new company is expected to make it quicker and easier for Japan-based manufacturers to obtain qualification of Bluetooth-enabled products, and also contribute to shorter development terms and lower associated costs.
Toshiba said the venture will have Japan’s only Bluetooth Qualification Body, a person authorized by the Bluetooth Qualification Review Board to organize and oversee provision of support to manufacturers seeking Bluetooth product qualifications. In addition, the venture will operate Japan’s sole Bluetooth Qualification Test Facility, which has the BQRB accreditation required to offer qualification testing.
The company is expected to incorporate by February and begin operations in April.
