ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill.-Motorola Inc. and Sprint PCS have agreed to a commercial network infrastructure agreement, providing CDMA equipment via Interoperability Specifications and third-generation cdma2000 1x high-speed packet data to certain markets on Sprint PCS’ wireless network.
The markets include Chicago; Charlotte, Greensboro and Raleigh, N.C.; Chattanooga and Knoxville, Tenn.; Cincinnati, Cleveland and Columbus, Ohio; Norfolk and Richmond, Va.; and Hawaii.
The upgrades are expected to enable 144 kilobits per second high-speed packet data services.
Motorola also said it successfully conducted 3G calls in Sprint PCS labs as part of the 3G trial in preparation for commercial deployment. The calls were placed on Motorola’s commercial SC4812ET four-carrier base station, currently deployed in the Sprint PCS network, requiring only card upgrades to support 1x voice and data features.
