Majority of customers use cell phones for personal calls

DALLAS-More than three-quarters of wireless customers use their cellular phones primarily for personal calls, according to a WebViews Survey conducted by Cellular One Group.

The survey showed that only 23 percent of respondents said “business” was the most common destination for their wireless phone calls.

“There is no denying that the cell phone now plays a significant role in our everyday lives,” said Richard Lyons, president of Cellular One Group. “In that regard, the cell phone ranks today with the automobile and the television.”

Of the 77 percent who said they most often use their cell phone for personal calls, 22 percent said they most often called a spouse or “significant other,” 20 percent called their children, 11 percent called friends and 24 percent said they conduct other personal business.
