Verizon launches Mobile Messenger, flat-rate plan

SALT LAKE CITY-Verizon Wireless introduced it Mobile Messenger two-way text-messaging service to customers in Salt Lake City.

Verizon Wireless explained there was no need for customers to subscribe to the service, since any customer with a two-way text messaging-capable phone can just “pay as they go.”

To introduce the service, Verizon Wireless said it was waiving all messaging fees until June 1.

In other news, the company introduced nationwide, flat-rate pricing options for consumers and businesses in eastern Idaho with no roaming and free long-distance. The family of five flat-rate price plans begins at $35 per month for 150 minutes, escalating up to $200 per month for 2,000 minutes of airtime. Verizon noted consumers must use a tri-mode handset to take advantage of the SingleRate plans.
