DALLAS-Beatnik Inc., which provides audio solutions and content for digital devices, games and the Web, has announced agreements with Texas Instruments and ARM, which provides 16/32-bit embedded RISC microprocessor solutions. According to the agreements, Beatnik will optimize its Beatnik Audio Engine for use on TI’s programmable digital-signal-processor-based OMAP architecture and for ARM’s architecture. The BAE enhances quality of music and sound effects and can be used on mobile phones, personal digital assistants and set-top boxes.
According to the companies, consumers using TI’s OMAP-based mobile Internet devices or ARM Powered products will have access to music and sound effects without extensive download times. Lorraine Hariton, chief executive officer and president of Beatnik Inc., said, “As part of the collaboration, Beatnik and TI will co-market this technology offering to the wireless device market. This solidifies our goal to deliver enhanced audio and music to a broad range of wireless devices.”
Dave Walsh, director of IPSD Product Sales for ARM, added, “Applications such as mobile-phone ring tones and games can benefit from Beatnik’s low bandwidth and high-quality audio technology, thereby enhancing the user’s experience of many consumer products. With more than 75 percent of all mobile phones shipped worldwide containing ARM core-based processors, developers will also benefit from this optimization.”
