NEW DELHI, India-HFCL, a leading Indian telecom equipment manufacturer, has bagged a contract in Nepal to supply 5000 wireless local loop (WLL) lines. The contract, part of a World Bank-aided project in the Himalayan kingdom, is said to be worth $4.5 million.
HFCL will supply WLL lines based on the CorDECT technology developed by the Indian Institute of Technology Chennai and being marketed worldwide by Analog Devices. In India, the technology has been licensed to four manufacturers.
A total of 11 international firms participated in the bid. The list included all major suppliers of TDMA- and CDMA-based systems. HFCL has already supplied a similar CorDECT system in Tunisia and is exploring other similar markets.
