BEIJING-Guangzhou Mobile, the subsidiary of China Mobile in the southern city of Guangzhou, has started a new service whereby customers listen to commercials in exchange for the advertisers paying part of their phone bills.
Users must dial a toll-free number to access the ad channel. The more they listen to ads, the more their outstanding phone bills will shrink. After each ad, the user is told how much money he has made. The service can also be used for market surveys.
Hong Kong’s South China Morning Post reported that Ericsson and Siemens were among the first companies to air commercials.
