Companies change names for a variety of reasons. For JP Systems, which has seen its name change a few times in its five-year history, its name change to JP Mobile Inc. highlights the company’s attempts to focus its resources on the wireless industry. A focus centered around providing its Mobile SureWave Mobile Server to enterprises.
“The SureWave Mobile Server will bring the power of the enterprise into the hands of the mobile user in the same way the Web server brought the power of the Internet to the enterprise,” explained Dayakar Puskoor, founder and chief executive officer of JP Mobile. “JP Mobile’s new focus will enable us to pioneer the enterprise mobile server market while continuing to deliver the same customer service and support that made JP Systems a name to trust.”
JP Mobile’s SureWave Mobile Server acts as an intermediary between an enterprise’s hosted information and its mobile work force, and is designed to allow a secure, flexible, scalable and rapidly deployable mobile solution for enterprises.
JP Mobile estimates enterprises incorporating its SureWave Mobile Server can develop large mobile applications in one-third the time it takes to deploy other enabling software. SureWave also is designed to protect legacy and future enterprise investments because of its standards-based architecture.
Included in the SureWave software are mail and Web applications allowing users to connect with e-mail applications like Lotus Notes and Microsoft Exchange, and enable mobile users to connect to the Internet and enterprise intranets and extranets.
“What JP Mobile has accomplished with the SureWave Mobile Server is an important development in wireless connectivity,” said Andy Seybold of the Andrew Seybold Group. “Several companies have been touting custom-made mobile enterprise solutions for a while, but JP Mobile is one of the first to actually productize a mission-critical implementation and deliver it in a meaningful way.”
Puskoor noted SureWave also was the only mobile server providing complete end-to-end security and provides a transaction guard application allowing users to check if a transaction went through even if a signal is lost during transmission.
The security of SureWave is backed by the New York Stock Exchange, which uses the software, and guarantees transactions are completed within 22 seconds. Puskoor said the software is so robust it was able to handle the volume generated during the NYSE’s October 1998 crash.
“We’ve been in this business for five years now,” said Ananth Rao, executive vice president of JP Mobile. “We have witnessed the birth and growth of an entire industry. Along the way we have learned quite a few lessons, including how to quickly deliver repeatable mobile solutions. We are proud of our history in developing mobile software and have recognized that the future lies with enterprise mobile servers.”
JP Mobile offers SureWave as a licensed model for companies to install behind their firewalls or as a hosted model. Puskoor said the hosted model is contracted out to secure outside vendors.
