LAS VEGAS-AT&T Wireless Services Inc. announced partnerships that it said will lead to new applications and services for a variety of devices for the GSM/GPRS network it plans to deploy later this year.
AT&T plans to work with Accenture, Compaq Computer, MDSI and Siebel Systems Inc. to provide various advanced wireless services. AT&T also signed a letter of intent with Tellme Networks Inc. for a voice interface for accessing information.
“These companies recognize the flexibility and scalability of a GSM/GPRS network and have shown their support through their action,” said Rod Nelson, chief technology officer for AT&T Wireless. “We welcome the opportunity to work with these companies and invite others to join us now and as we continue to move forward with our network plans.”
The company will also expand its Data Developer Program so developers can adapt current applications for use on its GSM/GPRS network.
AT&T Wireless announced its plans for a GSM/GPRS network last November and said that since then, more than 100 companies have announced GPRS products or services. The company said this network will support deployment of a UMTS network in 2003.
