New World Mobility selects Nokia Artuse USSD

HELSINKI, Finland-New World Mobility, a mobile operator based in Hong Kong, has selected the Nokia Artuse Unstructured Supplementary Services Data Centre, a platform that offers faster interactive messaging services within GSM networks.

According to Nokia, the USSD operates up to seven times faster than existing short message service platforms, and there are no delays for message storing and forwarding. The USSD Centre, which is part of the complete Nokia GSM system, provides a connection to the Nokia DX200 Home Location Register (HLR) and can be supplied with an interface for billing systems and the Nokia Networks Management System. It also provides the GSM network with a narrowband bearer for “easy-to-use” WAP services, which Nokia said is economical because it saves network resources and has short connection set-up times.

“The Nokia Artuse USSD Centre is complementary to existing SMS services, allowing operators to provide subscribers with the most suitable bearer technology, depending on the service,” said Jonathan Yip, general manager of Nokia Networks for Nokia Hong Kong Ltd. “This advanced USSD technology paves the operators’ way for the provision of wireless data applications.”
