Nexthaus provides synchronization software

NEW YORK-Nexthaus Corp., Raleigh, N.C., plans to help wireless carriers “squeeze as many dollars as possible from existing 2G networks” with its new SyncSuite synchronization software, said Rob Lease, co-founder and vice president.

The company based its product on the premise that people will continue to use multiple communications devices, but that the desktop will retain its primacy for most computing functions. When downloaded into a personal computer, SyncSuite allows the PC to synchronize its files with most pagers, wireless phones and laptop and handheld computers.

“It is installed in a PC with a few set-up prompts. It is built on an SMS (short message service) client, similar to an e-mail client, and can send an SMS message from the PC to any SMS-enabled device,” Lease said.

“What’s unique is that we’ve wrapped this into one PC application to make it easier for users to take advantage of SMS. This will increase the revenue stream for carriers by increasing the use of SMS.”

As wireless carriers improve their coverage, Nexthaus plans to introduce “a server piece so users can also sync from the Web,” he added.

Nexthaus seeks to become a private label provider to original equipment manufacturers that bundle SyncSuite into their devices, Lease said. The software will become available commercially at the end of March.

“In the beginning, we are focused on the OEM model because that is the best way to seed the market. Future iterations may be downloadable software upgrades sold through e-commerce,” he said.
