MobileSys, Siebel target enterprise messaging

MobileSys Inc., a wireless messaging platform provider, reported an alliance with Siebel Systems Inc. to provide enterprise organizations with real-time wireless messaging for employees and customers.

“Our customers are asking for wireless data messaging solutions which serve both one-way and two-way communications and operate across the globe, while providing scalability and support for future expansion within the enterprise,” said Brian Stone, director of product marketing, wireless products for Siebel Systems. “This alliance complements Siebel Systems’ wireless browser products and adds an additional wireless channel to our customer’s multi-channel eBusiness deployments.”

MobileSys said its wireless data platform is comprised of its MX messaging engine, which is designed to integrate into critical enterprise applications, and the MobileSys Network for managed connections into wireless carriers worldwide. The MX messaging engine can manage millions of message recipients and deliver messages to and from most digital wireless devices, including pagers, mobile phones, personal digital assistants and handheld computers, according to MobileSys.

The MobileSys Network is designed to provide customers with an outsourced solution for deploying, managing and tracking wireless messages globally. The network leverages relationships with wireless carriers worldwide to provide a connection from the enterprise customer over most wireless protocol to any data-enabled device.

While MobileSys has partnership agreements with wireless carriers, including Qwest Communications International Inc., Nextel Communications Inc. and Sprint PCS domestically, it is still trying to get carriers to understand the importance of data to their customers.

“Carriers are very possessive of their customers, and are concerned about their walled-garden models,” Katherine Stolz, vice president of marketing for MobileSys, said. “Until data becomes more common, it’s hard to sell them the business case, but we can make sense for them. We have not had a lot of difficulty once they get their heads around what data can do for them.”

While MobileSys is still dependent on venture-capital financing, Stolz said the company has earmarked its latest round of capital investment, $36 million last September, for a two-year time frame to ride out the current lack of VC funding. But Stolz said she was hopeful the company would be financially independent within one year.
