PARSIPPANY, N.J.-The wireless data market, which will grow to $8 billion by 2006, will largely be made up of three industries-transportation, financial/insurance/real estate, and professional business services-according to a new report from Insight Research.
“Insight sees growth in business wireless voice revenue under considerable pressure,” said Robert Rosenberg, the company’s president. “Carriers who want to increase their bottom line must push wireless data services to the high-growth industries.”
According to the report, “Wireless Data, Wireless IP and Vertical Markets 2001-2006,” wireless data accounts for only 2 percent of wireless industry revenue now. However, with increasingly mobile work forces, that number will grow to 27 percent by 2006.
Wireless companies seem poised to take advantage of the potential of the business market. A number of companies last week released detailed efforts to offer products and services to the business market. For example:
Brightpod and esoftsolutions announced they are partnering to help corporate customers mobilize their content and applications for wireless devices.
ThinAirApps Inc. and Japan-based Arriya Solutions Inc. announced a partnership to target Japan’s mobile workforce.
724 Solutions Inc. recently released its new Alerts Platform, which the company said will allow businesses to offer internally based personalized alerts to their customers.
