U.S. Wireless to add GSM air interface to RadioCamera system

SAN RAMON, Calif.-U.S. Wireless Corp. announced it will support E-911 caller location for GSM carriers by adding an air interface to its RadioCamera location system, allowing wireless carriers to meet the Federal Communications Commission’s Phase II requirements.

“We intend to enable emergency caller location and location-based services for all mobile-phone standards,” said Dr. Oliver Hilsenrath, the company’s chairman and chief executive officer. “Our location service bureau will be available to wireless carriers and their subscribers, regardless of their individual operating standards and handset model, allowing them to benefit from the efficiencies and economies of a shared location network platform.”

Recent tests confirmed U.S. Wireless’ system meets the FCC Phase II requirements: 67 percent of all calls were located within an accuracy of 61 meters and 60 percent of all calls were located within 50 meters.

The U.S. Wireless GSM interface should be available in first-quarter 2002.
