CORAL GABLES, Fla.-SetNet Corp., which provides messaging software and systems for telecommunications companies, announced its VoxMail text-to-speech application will be used by a Belgian operator with more than 3.6 million subscribers.
Belgacom Mobile plans to launch VoxMail over its GSM network, which SetNet said covers 99 percent of the Belgian population.
SetNet said its service reads e-mails and attachments and allows subscribers to respond by voice. The responses are forwarded to recipients as e-mails with audio file attachments. The application also allows users to transfer e-mails to a fax number and to create standard responses. VoxMail incorporates e-mail notification alerts using short messaging service technology, the company said.
“SetNet’s VoxMail technology automatically adapts to multiple languages to supply the correct electronic voice,” said Stephan Desmit, the carrier’s director of its mobile data group. “This functionality is extremely important to us due to our multi-cultural customer base. Now customers can actually listen to their e-mails anywhere, anytime from their mobile or wired phones.”
