Dear Editor,
As a former telecom magazine editor-in-chief, a wireless executive and a resident of the state of Florida, I wanted to comment on Jeffrey Silva’s lack of objectivity in his bylined news story, “Jeb Bush weighs in against wireless in 3G spectrum fight.” First of all, the lead sentence unfairly paints Gov. Jeb Bush as the villain who decided the presidential election (…the Florida governor who figured big in the controversial electoral victory that proved decisive in getting his brother elected president…). In case you missed the newscasts for nearly two months, Gov. Jeb Bush actually remanded himself from the final decision-making process down here, obviously due to conflict of interest.
While I realize that the current administration may be positioned against our industry in some areas, I do not believe that Washington is now attempting to stifle wireless growth in general. Gov. Bush’s quote was consistent in siding with education and fighting for its rights. Nothing more and nothing less.
Jeffrey, you are too talented a journalist to resort to this type of slanted writing. If you wish to express your personal opinion or that of the publication, please limit it to your Opinion page, where it is clearly labeled as such. Members of this industry rely too heavily on RCR Wireless News and other members of the media for “objective” news reports. Please keep your news stories accurate and objective.
