LONDON-U.K. cable company NTL and France Telecom’s Orange announced a partnership, whereby Orange will provide mobile-phone services to NTL’s 3 million residential customers. A contract is due to be signed by the end of May, the companies said.
The deal will provide Orange with access to a new customer base and enable NTL to supplement its current package of television, telephone and Internet products with wireless services.
Under the agreement, NTL will launch a tailored mobile service to its customers in the second half of 2001. It will market and promote the new service as a core part of its bundled package. The companies will work together to explore the opportunities of creating future value-added services and offering integrated services for voice and data communications.
France Telecom, which owns Orange, also owns 25 percent of NTL.
