Lucent Technologies Inc. has signed two contracts with PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia Tbk to build its nationwide intelligent network and multimedia access infrastructure valued at $17.5 million. “We are pleased to have new supply agreements with Lucent Technologies,” said Muhammad Nazif, president director, PT Telkom.

CANADA

Telus Corp. announced that its largest shareholder, Verizon Communications Inc., will reinvest any dividends it receives from its Telus shares as part of Telus’ new dividend reinvestment plan. Verizon holds 47.4 million Telus voting shares and 15.8 million Telus non-voting shares. Its dividend reinvestment will be approximately $22 million on July 1.

CHINA

Chinese manufacturer ZTE Corp. said it has received a CDMA license from Qualcomm Inc. to develop, manufacture and sell cdmaOne and CDMA2000 1x and 1xEV network equipment. ZTE will be the first Chinese company to sign such a license. “ZTE has shown early and consistent leadership in developing products for the CDMA market and has been a strong supporter of the efforts to deploy commercial CDMA products to the vast market in China for wireless equipment,” said Steve Altman, president of Qualcomm technology alliance.

China Unicom has awarded Motorola Inc.’s Global Telecom Solutions Sector three contracts valued at $141 million to expand and install GSM900 and 1800 networks in three Chinese provinces. The contract, which is expected to begin operations in October, will cover Jiangsu, Shandong and Xinjiang and 2.68 million subscribers, according to a statement. “Our ongoing relationship with China Unicom has provided a solid platform for the success of their network, and enables Motorola to bring the best products and services to China,” said Ruey Bin Kao, Motorola vice president and general manager of the China telecom carrier solutions group.
