WASHINGTON, D.C.-Standards Committee T1, one of six Participating Standards Organizations (PSOs) developing specifications for third-generation mobile communications, announced it completed its review process for the first release of 3G digital mobile communications specifications.
As a result, Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP)-compliant equipment can be delivered to operators in confidence. 3GPP, which includes Committee T1, continues to work on future releases of the specification to add multimedia features, including enhanced data streaming.
“It [release of the specifications] was only possible through total trust and understanding among all partners, and through dedication on the part of the experts,” said Asok Chatterjee of Ericsson, who is second vice chair on the board of directors for ATIS, the company that sponsors the Committee T1, and chair of the technical subcommittee T1P1 that represents Committee T1 in 3GPP. “3GPP is a model of cooperation on the global scale, and the introduction of third-generation mobile wireless in the near future looks very promising.”
