Firehunter monitors network service quality

NEW YORK-To help wireless carriers assess the quality of service as it is delivered to their customers via the Internet, Agilent Technologies Inc., Fort Collins, Colo., introduced at Supercomm its Firehunter/mobile Web monitoring product.

It is available now to monitor Wireless Application Protocol, short message service access and delivery in GSM networks and data transmissions over GPRS networks. Agilent also is researching ways to monitor cdma2000 packet-switched data.

“The value chain has become increasingly complex, and there is a need to monitor everything from content providers to long-haul networks … It’s one thing to wait for content to be delivered on a PC (personal computer), but quite another to wait for it in a mobile environment, ” said David Colton, product manager for Firehunter/mobile.

“Based on Java, Firehunter software runs on PC or UNIX work stations. It can be placed out on the edge where the end customer accesses the network, within the network infrastructure or in the data center. It can be used as a diagnostic tool to locate the source of a problem.”

Firehunter/mobile provides a real-time, end-to-end view of wireless infrastructure and service delivery. It also enables carriers to monitor service level agreements at every stage of the access and delivery process.
