NTT DoCoMo applies for stock listings, calls back handsets
NTT DoCoMo Inc. has applied for listings this fall on the New York Stock Exchange and the London Stock Exchange, according to various sources.
Japan’s largest mobile wireless operator went public on the Tokyo Stock Exchange in October 1998.
DoCoMo has been an active investor in Europe and the United States, “including a hike in its 16 percent stake in AT&T Wireless Group since last year,” said the Kyodo News Service.
According to documents filed earlier this year with the Securities and Exchange Commission, DoCoMo has increased its ownership of AT&T Wireless to approximately a 17.4-percent economic interest.
In other news, NTT DoCoMo on Friday announced it will call back all the 1,400 standard-type 3G handsets and replace them with upgraded versions. The handset at issue is a standard-type 3G terminal manufactured by NEC Corp.
NTT DoCoMo on May 30 launched 3G services on an experimental basis for 4,500 selected users in the Tokyo metropolitan area. Among the 4,500 experimental service users, 1,400 were given the standard-type handset. NTT DoCoMo said to let customers use the upgraded handset, the carrier will call back all the handsets.
