Mobileum platform supports simultaneous voice and data functions

NEW YORK-Mobileum Inc., Pleasanton, Calif., has released the 2.0 version of Mobileum, which the company is touting as the “world’s first tools-independent wireless application platform.”

The “tools-independent” feature means that application and Web developers “can use standard development tools like Macromedia Dreamweaver and Adobe GoLive” rather than having to purchase proprietary tools from the platform provider, said Peter Brooks, a spokesman for Mobileum.

The Mobileum platform also is completely independent of device, network and data source in order to allow “seamless global access,” the company said.

“Our platform (also) will be the first that enables wireless applications to be built that support data and voice at the same time … (something that) normally would have taken two separate calls,” Brooks said.

By way of example, Brooks offered a scenario in which a salesperson is speaking by mobile phone with a client who asks for the status of an order. Today, that sales representative must hang up on the customer, dial into the corporate database to query it and then call the client back to give the answer.

Mobileum 2.0 will allow that salesperson to put the call to the client on hold while checking the company’s database via the mobile Web and then toggling right back to the voice call, he said.

“Mobileum 2.0 (also) offers a number of unique, patent-pending enhanced wireless services modules that deliver differentiated mobile applications focused on quality of service,” the company said.

“Built-in security and privacy management assures users that wireless transactions are safe, reliable and secure.”
