SEOUL, Korea-SK Telecom, South Korea’s largest wireless operator, said it will pull out of the fixed-line business to focus on its mobile services, according to international press reports. The company said it would sell its 6.1-percent stake in Hanaro Telecom as part of the decision.
However, SK will retain its 5-percent stake in Powercomm.
Reports also said SK Telecom will delay its wideband CDMA launch, originally planned for May 2002.
SK Telecom is expected to complete its merger with Shinsegi Telecomm in January and currently dominates the country’s wireless market. The carrier offers 1xRTT service and last year purchased a W-CDMA third-generation license.
