NEW YORK-Businesses should hold off on investing in wireless applications for the consumer and should instead look at the potential of wireless for internal operations, according to a new report from Deloitte Consulting.
“In the near term, strategic investments in wireless applications within the company make much more sense,” said Martin Dunsby, global wireless initiative leader at Deloitte Consulting. “It drives value back into the enterprise by addressing practical, day-to-day business challenges such as supply chain visibility, logistics management, sales force automation and field service.”
The consulting firm said consumer applications will become more important as wireless technologies become more advanced. However, the firm said, businesses can use today’s wireless technology to improve their operations and score significant return on investments.
The firm pointed to a variety of business examples, including the U.S. Postal Service and Ford Motor Co., which are using wireless services and devices to smooth out business operations.
