SAN FRANCISCO-OmniSky Corp. said it received two key provisional patents covering technology related to location-based services, an area many see as a major future source of revenue for wireless companies.
OmniSky said one patent covers technology to predict and deliver location and time-sensitive information, such as maps, directions and event notices. The second patent relates to virtual, interactive characters intended for commerce, travel and interaction based on location information.
“These provisional patents affirm OmniSky’s continued technology leadership in the wireless data sector,” said Patrick McVeigh, the company’s chief executive officer.
