BEIJING—China’s second-largest mobile operator, China Unicom, launched its Uni-Info wireless data service on 1 August. The carrier will charge customers a connection fee and will transfer a content fee to the service provider offering the content, such as China’s top three portals Sina, Sohu and NetEase.
News flashes, weather and stock quotes will be delivered using the short message service (SMS) format.
Rival China Mobile already started offering a mobile data service earlier this year.
