Cingular signs long-distance deal

ATLANTA-Cingular Wireless signed a five-year deal with BellSouth Long Distance and SBC Long Distance to provide long-distance services to the wireless operator on a national level.

Cingular Wireless was formed from the wireless operations of BellSouth and SBC Communications.

“This arrangement is the result of a thorough, nationwide bid process involving all the major long-distance providers,” said Frank Boyer, vice president of procurement for Cingular. “BellSouth and SBC submitted the most competitive bid-one that takes care of all our domestic and international long-distance requirements, at standardized and significantly reduced rates, using guaranteed-quality networks.”

Financial terms of the agreement were not released.
