TOKYO—104 Inc., a leading mobile Internet platform provider, along with CMG Wireless Data Solution, a business unit of CMG Group, will jointly provide a platform for mobile Internet content distribution. The firms announced the agreement on Aug. 15. Based on the deal, both firms will jointly sell the platform for carriers and content providers in Europe.
European carriers are now busily constructing General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) networks, packet communications networks based on the European GSM standard. Based on the GPRS networks, carriers are expected to launch content distribution services soon. 104 and CMG Wireless Data Solution will target carriers and content providers. 104 will provide the Xme Platform, the firm’s new platform exclusively developed for mobile Internet services, while CMG Wireless Data Solution will provide gateway servers based on WAP or i-mode.
NTT DoCoMo, in cooperation with KPN Mobile and e-Plus, is also planning to launch i-mode-like service in Europe in the near future.
