DALLAS, Texas, United States—WebLink Wireless said it reached a deal with Mexican wireless carrier Digitel to offer two-way messaging services in Mexico.
“Expanding our two-way services into Mexico is something we are very excited about and have been looking forward to providing to our customers,” said Rick Nelson, president of WebLink Wireless International. “By aligning with Bell Mobility in Canada and now Digitel in Mexico, we have accomplished our goal of having the first seamless NAFTA-wide, ReFLEX-based wireless data network. Now business people and vacation travelers alike can use their WebLink Wireless two-way in all three countries.”
Earlier in the week, the bankrupt messaging carrier posted good news, showing a jump in its earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) in its second quarter-earnings report.
The company’s consolidated EBITDA, which is generally used to measure the success of wireless carriers, increased to $4.1 million, up $3 million from the previous quarter. In addition, the company’s wireless data division, which includes its two-way messaging business, jumped to $1.5 million in EBITDA from a negative $4.8 million the company posted in the previous quarter. The move to positive EBITDA in the wireless data division occurred one quarter earlier than expected, WebLink said.
