Octave enters wireless instant messaging space

NASHUA, N.H.-The wireless instant messaging space just got a little more crowded as Octave Communications released a new subscription service for instant group communications aimed at wireless carriers and service providers.

Octave said its new set of applications, called MeetAbout, will allow any mobile-phone user to instantly start a conversation with multiple members of a buddy list using an always-available virtual conference room. The service uses speech, mobile Web browsers or SS7 signaling, and can also determine the online presence/availability of an individual or group member being contacted, the company said.
