WASHINGTON—The Federal Communications Commission has extended the deadline for the payment of regulatory fees to Sept. 26 at 11:59 p.m.
The action was necessary due to the disruption and cancellation of mail and air courier service throughout the United States in the wake of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, said the FCC.
“All fiscal year 2001 regulatory fee payments must be date stamped as received by Mellon Bank by 11:59 p.m. Sept. 26 in order to avoid incurring a mandatory 25-percent late payment penalty,” the FCC noted in bold letters on its public notice.
Regulatory fees are a separate assessment from filing fees since regulatory fees go to offset congressional appropriations and filing fees are sent to the general treasury
