China to better protect phone users

BEIJING—A new regulation will give Chinese fixed-line and mobile-phone users better protection. Dealers will be held responsible for the quality of the phones they sell. Repairmen will have to undergo appropriate training.

The regulations cover the repair, replacement and compensation for faulty phones for up to one year after the invoice date. They were issued on 24 September and will take effect on 15 November.

The China Daily reported that according to the State General Administration for Industry and Commerce, 8 percent of all complaints received in the first half of the year involved mobile phones.
