FCC asked to re-examine RF safety guidelines

MANSFIELD, Vt.—The EMR Network asked the Federal Communications Commission to launch a rulemaking to re-examine radiation safety guidelines for mobile phones and base stations.

“The pertinent regulations were revised in 1996-97. However, the supporting scientific and medical studies are no more recent than 1985. Since then, much significant research in the field has been conducted, peer-reviewed, and published,” stated the EMR Network.

The group, which unsuccessfully challenged phone radiation rules in court, contends the FCC radiation standard covers heating effects of mobile phone and tower radiation but does not address potentially harmful non-thermal effects that have been discovered in recent research.
