STOCKHOLM, Sweden—Skanova, a Swedish developer of telephony, Internet and broadband services, has signed an agreement on the delivery of network capacity to the Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) network planned by 3G Infrastructure Services, 3GIS. The company is jointly owned by mobile operators Hi3G and Europolitan Vodafone.
The agreement is the first covering nationwide infrastructure for UMTS in Sweden, Skanova said. Work on the UMTS network will start in October. It is estimated to be finished by the end of 2002, with a coverage for 70 percent of the Swedish population.
“Our task is to build and operate an infrastructure for UMTS. It is a huge and complex project, which is why we make high demands on our suppliers. We believe that Skanova has the necessary expertise and experience for delivering network capacity,” said Jan Edh
