STOCKHOLM, Sweden—3G Infrastructure Services (3GIS) selected its third-generation (3G) vendors.
Swedish vendor NCC Telecom signed a contract to provide base stations to 3GIS in Sweden. The value of the contract was not disclosed.
Under the agreement, NCC will build at least 300 base stations in Sweden. The contract includes an option to build additional base stations up to the end of 2003. The agreement with 3GIS covers project management, site procurement, project design, construction and installation, and work has already begun.
“Since we have already concluded an agreement with Tele2 in the Swedish market, we are the Swedish construction company that has made the most progress to date in terms of securing orders,” said Maged Saleh, business unit manager at NCC Telecom Sweden.
In addition, Nokia signed a contract to supply 3G infrastructure equipment to 3GIS, which includes its core network, radio access network solution and technical services.
Nokia’s deliveries to 3GIS, which is a network-sharing joint venture between Hi3G and Europolitan Vodafone, will begin October this year.
