PCIA gives community awards

ALEXANDRIA, Va.—The Personal Communications Industry Association (PCIA) announced six annual awards given to individuals and companies for outstanding contributions to their communities through the use of mobile technology.

The Albert Gore Jr. LifePage Award, which was established to recognize individuals and LifePage teams exemplifying outstanding customer service and quality care was given to Debbie Marquis of Metrocall; the Arch Wireless LifePage Team and the Verizon Wireless LifePage Team.

Susan Fitzgerald and Nancy Valley, both of Motorola, received the 2001 Distinguished Corporate Citizen’s Award. Fitzgerald was honored for her support of the Text to Protect program, a text-messaging program that offers emergency assistance to sexual abuse and domestic violence victims who are deaf, hard of hearing or speech-impaired. PCIA said Valley was honored for her overall initiative, leadership and dedication to the universal accessibility of wireless products and technology.

In addition, Arch Wireless was named the recipient of the 2001 PCIA Foundation’s Chairman’s Award. Arch was recognized for its part in the LifePage program as well as for providing wireless service to the 2000 biannual National Kidney Foundation Transplant Games.
