JOHANNESURG, South Africa—Intelsat is to launch 10 more satellites to improve its services to the Asia-Pacific region. The satellites currently already cover 53 territories in Africa, providing data, video, corporate and Internet services to the continent.
Flavien Bachabi, sales and marketing vice president for Africa, said at Telecom Africa 2001 this week that some of the satellites would provide on-demand satellite television facilities to allow African countries to share top programs. Intelsat is also to supply free technical support and assistance to the continent and plans to set up a center in Togo for training personnel in satellite technology.
The company is currently handling specialized training for the South African operator Telkom in Pretoria, South Africa.
