JOHANNESBURG, South Africa—SchlumbergerSema and Compaq Computer have unveiled a mobile services solution targeted at network operators that have acquired licenses in new and emerging markets.
The “GSM in a box” solution is called the SchlumbergerSema SimphonyLite and is said to be a package that that will enable operators to get to market quickly offering basic voice and messaging services. Designed and tested in Johannesburg, South Africa, the solution can be installed in less than half the time required for a conventional component-based system.
Jenny Newton, vice president of Compaq Telecom for Europe, Middle East and Africa, said: “We are committed to helping operators get to market quickly so that they may realize the business benefit as soon as possible. The solution has a ready-to-deploy design, a low initial cost, reduced installation and management costs and a rapid time to market giving operators a fast time to revenue and attractive ROI (return on investment).”
The solution is based on a Compaq Alpha server running Tru64 Unix with SimphonyLite incorporating Comaq TeMIP network and services management solutions.
