NEW DELHI, India—Nortelpa, a “mini-mirror” telecom service provider in Brazil, has selected the CorDECT wireless local loop (WLL) system of Midas Communication Technologies of Chennai, India, for providing telephony and Internet services in Paragominas, Brazil.
The Brazilian government licensed mini-mirror companies to provide telephony and related services to semi-urban and rural communities and has licensed various operators like Nortelpa to compete with fixed-line operators.
“We hope to cater to the needs of more such mini-mirror operators in Brazil,” said Shirish Purohit, director, Midas Communication. “CorDECT was chosen because it can provide both voice and Internet and is cost effective in terms of capital expenditure and recurring expenses. The system is also approved by the Brazilian regulating authority.”
Midas completed, on a turnkey basis, the installation process and will also maintain the system for an initial six-month period. The telephone exchange provides telecom services to a population of about 70,000 in Paragominas. The coverage has been extended to 15 kilometers using a relay base station.
