WASHINGTON—The National Association of Tower Erectors and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration have signed a partnership agreement to reduce injuries and deaths that are on the rise as wireless carriers compete to build out national networks.
NATE and OSHA, which wanted a pact covering the entire U.S., had to settle for one governing the Midwest states of Ohio, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois and Indiana. However, other regions could sign on later. The voluntary safety program will require NATE members to adhere to safety guidelines recommended by OSHA; to provide safety training; and to have a trained individual on the work site at all times. OSHA and NATE will also develop a system of best practices for tower companies.
