HACKENSACK, N.J.—Wireless data provider GoAmerica Inc. said it is establishing a team to assist new subscribers who migrate to GoAmerica from other wireless data and Internet services providers.
A spokeswoman for the company said the move was partly due to the situation at wireless service provider OmniSky Corp., the fate of which has been in limbo since the company on Nov. 14 said it wouldn’t file its quarterly report and was considering a reorganization, sale or bankruptcy.
“It’s at least partially due to OmniSky,” said Ilya Welfeld, a GoAmerica spokeswoman. She said concerned OmniSky customers have contacted GoAmerica in recent weeks in order to move to a different wireless service provider.
Rumors abound as to whether OmniSky will shut down its service. Welfeld said OmniSky technicians assured her Thursday that the company was continuing its operations. OmniSky officials did not immediately return RCR Wireless News requests for comment.
GoAmerica said its team would work to ensure a smooth and uninterrupted transition of service and will provide dedicated technical and customer support to assist subscribers in transferring data and using GoAmerica’s Go.Web corporate-focused wireless data service.
