WASHINGTON—The Federal Communications Commission said it will vote next week on whether to authorize ultra-wideband technologies, despite requests from the departments of defense and commerce that a decision be deferred for two months so interference questions can be studied further.
The Pentagon and various federal agencies claim ultra-wideband devices will interfere with satellite-based global positioning system communications.
In addition to deciding on ultra-wideband deployment, the FCC at its Dec. 12 meeting will vote on telecom numbering issues and service rules for analog TV channels 52-59 that broadcasters are required to return as part of their move to digital technology.
