Zucotto cuts work force by 40 percent

SAN DIEGO—Zucotto Wireless Inc., which works to integrate wireless connectivity with Java technology, cut its work force by 40 percent, or 39 positions, in response to the economic slowdown.

“Zucotto has delivered a silicon-proven Java technology-based product to the market, and must now continue to focus its team and efforts on integrating our product into wireless handset designs,” wrote Mark Wells, the company’s chief executive officer, in a Dec. 4 letter explaining the cuts. “Our refocused team, along with new strategic partnerships across the industry, will ensure we are able to bring these projects to fruition over the coming months and begin to deliver commercial volumes.”

Zucotto offers a line of Java-based processors for memory-constrained, battery-powered wireless devices.
