TOKYO—Oki Electric Industry Co. and Payment First Co. launched a service enabling Internet payments for NTT DoCoMo’s i-mode wireless Internet service.
Payment First is a joint venture among NTT DoCoMo, Microsoft Corp., Oki, NTT Data and NTT Communications.
The Inter Debit Payment Services will be offered initially to Fuji Bank customers and will expand a current PC-only debit service to mobile phones. The service allows users to make secure payments via mobile phones and PCs.
Nippon Airways will support the service, allowing i-mode and PC users to purchase airline tickets through the service. The service will permit financial institutions to broaden access to debit payment services to include i-mode users, the companies said. In addition, virtual stores can expand sales through an expanded consumer base.
