SAO PAULO, Brazil—Brazilian mobile operator Telesp Celular introduced cdma2000 1x-based high-speed wireless data services in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Lucent Technologies Inc., which supplied base stations as part of a $130 million agreement with the carrier, said the Guarulhos section of Sao Paulo will become active before the end of the year with the Alphaville section operational by January.
Lucent and Dominican Republic operator Centennial Dominicana also announced the completion of the first 1x wireless data call in the Caribbean nation. Lucent said it was supplying equipment for the network under a $16 million agreement between the two companies.
