Wireless high on teen wish list

While not as desirable as the latest video game consoles or a DVD player, wireless phones and services are third most requested Christmas gifts by teenagers this holiday season according to a survey of 575 teenagers by International Communications Research.

The poll, commissioned by Cingular Wireless of teens ages 13 to 17, showed this increasingly coveted demographic placed wireless handsets and service just behind the latest video game boxes and DVD players, but ahead of computers or CD players as their most desired holiday present.

“The first two gift are no surprise, but wireless phones are a growing `must-have’ for every kid,” said Greg Roberts, director of marketing and national promotions for Cingular Wireless. “Parents, too, want their kids to have a wireless phone for convenience and safety.”

The survey also showed teens picked wireless Internet service and hands-free devices as their top wireless accessory, followed by wireless handsets for those without, wireless games for phones and specialized ring tones. RCR
