Mexican company to begin operations in Nicaragua

DENVER, United States—Mexico’s Grupo Salinas has secured a cellular license in Nicaragua after delays in finalizing the deal. Reuters reported the Mexican company’s Nicaraguan operation, PCS de Nicaragua, is authorized to begin operators in July.

BellSouth is the only mobile carrier currently operating in Nicaragua.

Grupo Salinas won a bidding process last March for the 10-year license with a US$8 million offer. Group Salinas, through TV Azteca, also owns Mexican mobile operator Unefon.
