South Africa sells stake in M-Cell

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa—The South African government has sold its 20-percent stake in mobile operator M-Cell to Ice Finance, a Dutch investor, for US$475 million. The sale was seen as a move to bolster the faltering rand, according to international press reports.

M-Cell , the second-largest operator in South Africa under the MTN brand, is still seeking a strategic equity partner, reports said.
