WASHINGTON—The Federal Communications Commission is not likely to return the deposits made by re-auction winners for the PCS C- and F-block licenses of bankrupt NextWave Telecom Inc. and Urban Comm-North Carolina Inc. by Friday as requested by the auction winners, said FCC Chairman Michael K. Powell.
“It wasn’t well advised to give congress a deadline. It is not better advised to give the commission a deadline,” said Powell. Verizon Wireless Inc. and 12 other carriers asked the FCC to return more than $3 billion in deposits by January 18.
