HELSINKI, Finland—The three major mobile-phone and equipment makers Nokia, Ericsson and Motorola Inc. are expected to announce their fourth-quarter reports that fell short of market estimates and hint at a slow sales in the months ahead, according to analysts.
Nokia is expected to perform better than the others, although Ericsson has said it expects a profitable 2002.
Another major gear maker, Nortel Networks, posted a loss of $1.83 billion, or 57 cents a share compared with $1.41 billion, or 46 cents a share, the same period last year.
“Revenues for the fourth quarter of 2001 reflected the reduced levels of spending in the global telecom industry which impacted all our business,” said Frank Dunn, president and chief executive officer at Nortel Networks.
